Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s recent Wall Street Journal op/ed, “The US-Saudi Partnership is Vital” was an admirable piece of analysis, and a full-throated statement of our national security interests. It also contained a section referencing former UN Amb. Jeane Kirkpatrick’s famous essay, “Dictatorships and Double Standards.” Several days prior, SSG Sr. Vice President for Strategic Operations David Reaboi generated a long tweet thread about this very same essay and, similarly, drew comparisons to President Carter’s mistakes when it came to the Shah’s Iran.
