Former UN Ambassador John Bolton will be the new National Security Adviser for President Trump in a few days. Welcome sir, we look forward to the strong voice for an America First policy you bring to the fray. It will greatly assist the President in advancing our cause.

This job will bring a lot of flak your direction, but I doubt that will be a problem for you. Regardless, we will stand with you and help counter any misinformation and scurrilous accusations that come your way.

We did so with your predecessor LTG H.R. McMaster who was the subject of countless attacks some on differences of opinion on policy, but many of them unfounded and factually inaccurate. Some of those behind these believe they were acting in the country’s best interest, but too often the method of leaks and back stabbing showed their true colors. We thank you HR for the great work you did in the NSC and throughout your career.

The Trump Administration as a whole has been poorly served by those who engaged in this. The infighting between different factions has damaged the Administration and made it less effective in providing for our national security. SSG has maintained a position of advising the Administration as to what we believe the best policies are and advocating for them. We have not engaged in undermining those we disagree with and have aired any such disagreements publicly or discussed them privately in confidence.

Let’s hope that moving forward those of us who share a belief in a strong and smart American national security posture can work together. There have been suggestions that you should clean house at the NSC. You certainly has every reason to want a team there that reflects your views and that will work with you to support the President and the country. There are some who have been working at cross purposes with the Administration and the NSC may be well-served to see them gone.

But I think many of the people already there have been doing tremendous work and hope they are evaluated individually. The NSC put out a fresh and powerful National Security Strategy that put us back on the Peace through Strength path under the leadership of Dr. Nadia Schadlow. The new Iran Strategy is a realistic view of the danger Iran presents to the region and the world and a plan to counter that. The NSC has provided the President with the best options possible to either fix, or finally forget, the Iran Deal. And let’s not forget the stinging defeat of ISIS and the show of strength that brought Kim Jong Un to the bargaining table.

Mr. Ambassador, You and I echoed some of the rhetoric that the President gave full bore to the North Korean tyrant. Give up your nuclear program or see it turned into smoking rubble. Your view that Kim is lying is likely to be proven out, but at least now President Trump can say he gave him a legitimate last chance before we are forced to take him down. That is the kind of strength that we look forward to seeing deployed against Iran and other enemies of the U.S. under your tenure as well.

So good luck settling in and we look forward to working with you to keep the country safe and prosperous.
